Inspections

We are required to carry out regular inspections of all establishments where scientific animals are bred, supplied or used in order verify that the establishments and the projects are in compliance with Directive 2010/63/EU and SI No 543 of 2012 (as amended).

• Regular inspections are intended to ensure establishments, projects and individuals are working to the required animal welfare standards, are complying with the conditions of their authorisations and the requirements of the legislation.
• The frequency of inspections is based on risk analysis strategy.
• A number of establishment inspections are unannounced.
• We have a suite of regulatory tools available to us under national legislation should any non-compliances be identified.
